Sunday # 4 Galettes

Me and the blueberry pancakes
Today´s jury:
Marcus, André, Johan, Anna and Katrin
This is a french type of savory pancake. Turned out nice. Anna even wanted it for next week. This recipe I stole from swedish television.

5 dl water
1 dl sour cream
250 g buck wheat
1/2 tsp salt
1 large egg
50 g butter

These are usually served with some kind of meat, but since I don´t eat meat we had smoked salmon, spinach and gorgonzola sauce or a mix of tuna, cremé fraice and capers.
For dessert Blueberry pancakes, which was the same as last week, just add blueberries.

Sunday # 3 American Pancakes

The winter is here. Thought maybe it would not come this year. Just skip it and go for spring. Had a few days of snow in November, but nothing that lasted. Now it seems it will be here for at least a week. This a view from my kitchen window

In the spring of 2000 I spent 2 months with my frind Hjalle and some other people in California, and he was supposed to come today, but unfortenately could not make it. But nevertheless - today´s theme, American Pancakes.






When you surf the internet for just standard, no filling, no extra, no funny stuff American Pancakes it is hard to find one originating from the U.S. It can of course also be my poor search technique.

I found a swedish one on ica.se, made it and it was bad, so I won´t post it. The one that got the highest marks from the jury was this one from the BBC:

255g/9oz plain flour
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
2 tbsp caster sugar
250ml/9fl oz milk
2 medium eggs, lightly beaten
6 tbsp cottage cheese
55g/2oz unsalted butter, melted

Lot thicker batter than I am used to, but turned out very nice. Don´t think the cottage cheese is an original ingredient in american pancakes, but I liked it.

På svenska

En del av bloggen blir på svenska, hälften av besökarna (2 st hittills) är svenska. Dagens ölpannkaka är den jag brukar göra så någon riktig utveckling har det inte blivit än.
Ulf och Tommie hade visning på lägenheten idag, det kom 60 pers. Anders förlänger pappaledigheten medan Amanda skriver klart sin magister.

Sunday # 2 So far so good - Beer Pancakes

I did not fail immediate. Now two weeks in a row. This time Beer Pancakes, they are a bit like swedish pancakes, but you switch 1/3 of the milk and use beer instead. You get a pancake that is a bit more bread like, you can make it thinner and tastes better if you ask me. I got the idea from a guy who was making pancakes at a music festival in the beginning of the 90´s.
The jury today was Anna, Ulf, Thomasine, Elin, Jens, Anders, Amanda and their son Ludwig.
Flying colors.

Sunday # 1 Swedish Pancakes

First sunday of the new year I was visited by Dougal from London and Amy all the way from Australia. The theme was Swedish pancakes. The recipe is pretty simple:


3 eggs
3 dl wheat flour
6 dl milk
pinch of salt
pinch of sugar
butter for frying

Served with Vendace roe, sour cream and red onion for savory and strawberry jam and whipped cream or mashed apples for sweet. They said they like it (too polite to say anything else :)

Pannkakor

Planen för nya året är enkel; Jag tänkte lära mig mer om pannkakor. Varje söndag, eller så ofta det går, tänkte jag göra en brunch med pannkakor. Varje gång blir det ett nytt recept. Med avstamp i det trygga svenska genom Hemmets Kokbok och sedan färdas genom världen och receptböcker för att komma fram till…….

Tja, vem vet. Inget särskilt tror jag.

Om man nyårsdagen 2007 googlade ”pancakes” fick man knappt 10 miljoner träffar, överst hamnar Wikipedia. Där kan man läsa att pannkakor finns i många olika varianter, men att det går ut på att skeda eller hälla ut en smet i grunden bestående av ägg, mjölk och mjöl på en stekyta. Som nummer två kommer en receptsite med över 120 recept på olika pannkakor. Trea ligger en film på YouTube och fyra en kille (tror jag) i HongKong som har ett band som heter the pancakes. Har inte kommit med någon skiva än, men säljer T–shirts på nätet. På listan över favoritband kommer Cake på sjätte plats, kanske är hans eget band en naturlig utveckling.
